welcome
This Web page provides information about my 2006 trip to Ratanakiri, Cambodia, where I did linguistic fieldwork among the Jarai people.
news
The News page is no longer being updated, and I have shortened many of the entries. This page may give some insight into the process of discovery, but many of my comments about the phonology there are tentative, and some I now know to be wrong. I'm not really doing anything much with this site anymore, and I've removed a lot of what was previously here. By the way, if you have questions about Jarai, you might want to contact Lap M. Siu, a native speaker who completed his MA in anthropology from Texas Tech University in 2009.
Jarai-English Dictionary
Lap Siu's MA Thesis, a Jarai-English lexicon, has been published online. Check it out: A Preliminary Jarai - English Dictionary. As the title suggests, it's preliminary, and Lap plans to continue work on it. But it's a great developing resource. Here are some benefits of the online version:
- Searchable by Jarai or English words
- You don't have to be able to type characters like barred-b (ƀ,Ƀ) or barred-d (đ,Đ) to search the Jarai words.
- The online version is free. (For $10 you can download it.)
Bibliography
I've been working on a bibliography of published Jarai language resources. You can see the results at the Jarai Language bibliography at Citizendium.org.
hebrew study guide
My Hebrew Study Guide, which is completely unrelated to my Jarai work, is available here.
