about me

I attended Bob Jones University, where I graduated in 2003 with a B.A. in English. I received my MA in Bible Translation (also from BJU) in May, 2007. The heart of the Bible translation curriculum is the summer Missionary Linguistics Program, which includes courses in syntax and morphology, phonetics and phonology, fieldwork, semantics, and principles of Bible translation. The courses - offered during the summer of every even year - are indispensable for field preparation.

Until August 2007, I was Coordinator for International Programs at Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency. I worked primarily with China and Guatemala adoptions. I continue to work for Carolina Hope part-time, doing design and maintenance work for the agency Web site. We recently launched an adoption blog.

In August 2007 I began my study in the PhD Linguistics program at the University of Texas at Arlington. Here's my Linguistics Department web page.

I've done occasional work for EMU International. At various times in the past, I've assisted in the office by processing donations. This past summer and fall (and continuing into the present) I've been working with my dad to develop EMU's Web site.

I love Wikipedia, but I'm becoming a fan of Citizendium because of its principled approach to seeking expert oversight, its stated principle of being family-friendly, and its non-anonymity policy. I started the Citizendium article on Pragmatics, and I hope to make further contributions.

I'm a member at Hampton Park Baptist Church, the church in which I grew up.
